The following weeks are affected by the TCUL and Blaine blackouts:
Co-ed Rec:
- no games on June 30
and July 21
- July 14 & 21 will be played at Northview Junior High (7 games) and Maple Grove (5 games)
Co-ed Advanced
- no games on July 2
or July 23
- July 16 & 23 will be played at NVJH and possibly one other location (working
on field space with another group that has NVJH partially rented)
The Men's and Women's leagues have no blackouts.
|
| 09 Apr 2009 |
Summer league registrations have been clipping along and spots are nearly gone
for the co-ed leagues:
- Co-ed Rec: Spots have long been filled for men and as of 11am on
April 9, we have 10 spots left for women.
- Co-ed Advanced: Spots filled for women on April 7 and men filled
weeks ago
We allow a few extra players to sign up and pay for the league. These people
on the "short" waiting list, are used to fill spots for players that cancel
before the league drafts. After the draft, we have to look for fair
replacements but preference is given to those on the short waiting list.
If you don't get in to your preferred league, you can register for our
Monday night men's and women's leagues.

Come Play in a Women's Hat Tournament Fundraiser!
by Jill Oesterreich Kiener
Three outstanding Minnesota girls high school players, Emily DePalma (Cretin
Derham Hall), Elise Rasmussen (Hopkins) and Erica Baken (Hopkins), were
selected to represent the United States on the Junior National team at the
World Championships this summer in Vancouver. The opportunity is once in a
lifetime, but the expenses are steep.
We want to support the growth of youth ultimate across the country, and
especially here in Minnesota, by helping to send Emily, Elise and Erica to
Canada to represent our state on the Junior National Team. We have planned a
hat tournament, with all proceeds going to this cause.
When: Sunday, June 22
Where: Northview Junior High in Brooklyn Park
Cost: We are asking for a minimum $10 donation to play, but encourage
you to give as much as you can to support Erica, Elise and Emily.
Who: All women of all ages and all levels of experience should play.
This is a great chance to support a good cause and enjoy a great day of
ultimate!
To register for this tournament, to donate even if you can't make it, or
for more information please e-mail Jill Oesterreich Kiener at

| With great excitement, I announce what will hopefully be the first
annual Spring League registration to round out four seasons of league
play for the Twin Cities.
My plan for the first year's league is to have an eight team draft
league, in the same vein as Tuesday/Thursday Night Summer League.
Games will take place at Lake Nokomis on
Saturdays from April 5 thru May 10 at 2:30pm. Each team will have 9 men and 6
women.
I envision the league as one that will have a wide variety of skills
and ages, somewhat similar to the Thanksgiving Hat Tourney that I've
thrown over the past few years. I've heard interest from club
players, people with considerable league experience, and the eager
newbies who may still be working on perfecting their throws etc. All
will be thrilled to get outside for the first few weeks (hopefully not
too rainy/snowy?/cold) and just run around. I don't feel like this
will be the best outlet for completely new players. It is a six week
league, and we won't quite have
time for the super basics, but I do envision this as a league where
players of all skills can learn from one another and have a great time.
Soon the official Bar of Spring League will be lined up, and with any
luck, we'll all head over together much like we go on to Biff's in the
summer and Tracy's in the Winter to commiserate and make new friends!
Much like Summer League, we will allow a buddy pair if both players
indicate that in their registration.
I'm excited. $30 will get you a league jersey as well as six fun filled
weeks of ultimate, stretching those outdoor legs for the first time in awhile
likely!
See ya on the field!

| If you squint hard enough, you just might catch a glimpse of summer. Bright
sun, a gentle breeze, the funky tang of your cleats on the porch. Hold on to
those summer thoughts because the Twin Cites Ultimate League is right around
the corner.
We're featuring four leagues again this summer. We'll run the granddaddy
of them all, the Tuesday co-rec league from May 13 - August 12. The advanced
co-ed league will run Thursdays from May 15 - August 14. Women's league is
back with a longer season from June 2 - August 11, and shares Mondays with the
Men's Team League, also June 2 - August 11.
Registration opens March 15. Leagues are popular and fill quickly. Men's
spots in the Thursday league closed out in just 10 days last year!
Designers: Help keep TCUL beautiful! Please submit your designs for
this year's discs and shirts to
tcul@mnultimate.org. If we pick your
design you get a free disc, bonus shirt, and individual registration for one of
the leagues. Deadlines haunt, however, so we need designs by March 10. Be sure
to check out design guidelines from
disccraft to keep revisions to a minimum.
Volunteers: We're always looking for help with the league. Be sure
to indicate your willingness to help out on the registration forms, or drop us
a line at tcul@mnultimate.org.
Looking forward to a great 2008,
TCUL Board

| The MN High School League is kicking off it's 2008 season. We are in need of
volunteers, as always. Lots of schools need help with coaching. You don't need
a lot of experience to help coach - most of the kids haven't played a lot and
we can almost always find someone to help you. If you are interested, please
email John Sandahl at
johnsandahl@gmail.com.
The league is also looking for a Treasurer. You would be responsible for
tracking funds, writing checks, and attending the board meetings (less than
once a month). This is a position that is compensated. If interested, please
contact Mike Berseth at
mike_berseth@yahoo.com by Jan
20th.
Thank you and have a nice day,
Mike Berseth
